Founder David Ruby, PE, SE, Receives J. Lloyd Kimbrough Award

Ruby+Associates, a structural engineering firm dedicated to serving the construction industry, is proud to announce that the firm’s chairman and founding principal David I. Ruby, PE, SE, received the 2022 J. Lloyd Kimbrough Award from the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).  The award was presented in Denver at the Colorado Convention Center following the keynote address during NASCC: The Steel Conference. 

The Kimbrough Award honors engineers and architects who are universally recognized as the pre-eminent steel designers of their era. The prestigious award is presented to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the structural steel industry through his or her design work.  The award is not necessarily presented annually; rather, it is only awarded when the selection panel believes that an individual is clearly worthy of the honor.

Mr. Ruby’s career spans over 60 years and he has made constructability his passion. He is respected with an impressive resume of high profile projects, articles, presentations, and he is author of the AISC Design Guide #23, “Constructability of Structural Steel Buildings.”  Mr. Ruby’s experience covers diverse aspects of the structural steel industry, including structural design, fabrication, erection, and construction engineering. To this day, he continues to share his constructability philosophy with the industry, authoring numerous articles on the topic and presenting at national, regional, and local conferences and seminars. He has received numerous awards and honors from industry groups, including the AISC 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award; the Structural Engineers Association of Michigan 2010 Outstanding Structural Engineer of the Year; and the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers 1998 Outstanding Individual Engineer in Private Practice award, among others.
