The Structural Engineers Association of Michigan (SEAMi) has selected Tim Franciso, PhD, PE, Technical Engineer with Ruby+Associates, as the recipient of the 2023 Young Structural Engineer of the Year award.  The award was presented on May 18th during SEAMi’s Annual Conference at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing.  The award is presented each year to a structural engineer who has been practicing in the field for 12 years or less, in recognition of their outstanding achievements in engineering and contributions to improve the quality of life for people around them.

After completing his masters degree and doctorate at Purdue University, and after receiving two bachelor of science degrees from Michigan State University before that, Tim Francisco joined Ruby as a Staff Engineer in 2014. He quickly got involved in some of Ruby’s high-profile work, such as the Hard Rock Stadium canopy project, a nuclear plant job, and a complex bridge replacement in Missouri. Promoted several times and currently a Technical Engineer, Tim has become a Ruby mentor, helping with onboarding new engineers.

Tim finds time to give back and has participated in Detroit’s Life Remodeled volunteer project for 4 years. In 2022, he served as an ACE Mentor, assisting teams of local high school students as they worked towards a final project, and inspiring them to pursue careers in the industry. At Ruby, Tim is a member of the Engineers Week Planning Committee, the Culture of Quality Team, and he regularly presents Ruby Tuesday talks to staff.
