The Structural Engineers Association of Michigan (SEAMi) has selected Leslie Bonthron, PE, Design Engineer with Ruby+Associates, a Degenkolb Company, as the recipient of the 2024 Young Structural Engineer of the Year award. The award was presented on May 15th, 2025 during SEAMi’s Annual Conference at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing. The award is presented each year to a structural engineer who has been practicing in the field for 12 years or less, in recognition of their outstanding achievements in engineering and contributions to improve the quality of life for people around them.

Leslie has contributed to major projects with Ruby, including the Hudson’s Site Tower in Detroit. She first joined Ruby as an intern in 2018 and returned as a full-time engineer in June 2020. She is an active mentor with the ACE Mentor Program of Southeast Michigan, where her passion for engineering began, and remains dedicated to guiding the next generation of engineers. Leslie also participates in community service efforts throughout Detroit. Her SEAMi nomination and award highlights the energy, thoughtfulness, and commitment she brings to every aspect of her work, from technical excellence to mentorship and service. Leslie holds a Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering and Management and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering, both from Purdue University.
