The Structural Engineers Association of Michigan (SEAMi) has selected Michelle Atto, PE, SE, Technical Engineer with Ruby+Associates, as the recipient of the 2022 Young Structural Engineer of the Year award.  The award was presented on May 18th during SEAMi’s Annual Conference at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing. The award is presented each year to a structural engineer who has been practicing in the field for 12 years or less to recognize peers who are making a difference in our world and serving as role models for others as they perform their duties as structural engineers.

Michelle is a Technical Engineer with Ruby, and she joined the firm in February 2020. Prior to Ruby, Michelle worked in Chicago as a Senior Structural Engineer at a large energy and power-focused firm. Her project work with Ruby includes the Hudson’s Site Project in Detroit, for which she provided several connection designs in various locations for the block and tower portions. Michelle is a member of Ruby’s Community Service Group and she recently coordinated the firm’s participation in Life Remodeled Career Vision Day. She is currently a Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program (DAPCEP) volunteer, and in the past she volunteered in Kansas City, MO with Habitat for Humanity. Michelle has a B.S. degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering with a Minor in Math from the University of Michigan (where she was a member of the school’s Steel Bridge Team), and she has a M.S. in Civil & Materials Engineering from University of Illinois, Chicago.
